Switched to Windows and got MPAGD working, now what?
Well, I honestly feel overwhelmed now and I haven't even started on making a game with it. I spent all my time and energy installing Windows for compatibility reasons that I don't have very many ideas on where to start. [sarc]Wee.[/sarc] This is really weird to ask, but...any ideas I could jot down ...

Re: Need help deciding on which Speccy emulator for Windows should I use...
What are you after? What are the most important features for you? User friendlyness? Support for many clones? Debugger? Built-in assembler? Replay recording? Free vs commercial? Some specific feature? If you know what you want, it may help to narrow down your options. To be honest, I just want some...

Need help deciding on which Speccy emulator for Windows should I use...
Hi! So, long story short, I decided to bite the bullet and install Windows 10 (a custom version from the Internet FYI) on to my ol' HP Envy desktop for MPAGD reasons. It works well, but to put it simply, I can't decide which is the best ZX Spectrum emulator for Windows. Anyone got a recommendation? ...

Yes...and I think it's called "Boriel Basic for ZX Spectrum."worcestersource wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 4:18 pm Is there a book? I’m writing a game with it and am pretty sure there must be some hyper efficient coding tricks I don’t know about.
EDIT: Here's the link.

Forgive the necro, but I'm gonna be trying to get a book on Boriel Basic from Amazon. So, one step closer to this idea from scratch at least.

Wow...admittedly I knew this would cause a bit of a stir, but not of this scale.

Re: Pride Month is here. Show me LGBTQ+-themed ZX Spectrum games!
I am sad because I wanted to link you a great AY-3 chip cover of "fake lesbians" tATu but I can't remember the song name so I can't find it! Hahaha... ok point taken. But licensing a brand to a game is fake by definition eh. At least you can tell your parents, who are concerned about all ...

I should make a disclaimer that I am not trying to start anything too major. I'll still keep my politics lowkey. If this is too much, please let me know before locking this thread.

Re: Be careful - image flipping won'r protect you!
I think parodies and homages should be protected under fair use, but copyright laws are getting so ridiculous on an international level that Nintendo has taken down the assets used to create parody work made using Gmod and SFM. Fair use should also apply to fan-made demakes and ports (especially if ...

Re: Context-sensitive buttons in ZX Spectrum game...?
@AndyC Yeah, it does seem weird to do this in the context of something like Manic Miner/Jet Set Willy derivative, but I do want to tell a somewhat decent story through something other than a text or graphic adventure.

Context-sensitive buttons in ZX Spectrum game...?
You know what I loved about Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64? The use of a context-sensitive button...especially in humorous situations. Imagine playing a platformer one day and you press that exact button to do a different thing depending on the context of the situation. I'm not talking QTEs that p...

Re: New Game Creator
Not sure what you mean by project savefile that aren't snapshot files, can you clarify? When you do gamedev using a native tool in Fuse and whatnot, you don't get a lot of options. You either save to a *.z80 (or *.sna, whichever you prefer) or you have to put it on an entire TAP/TZX image. Back in ...

@Jusalak Welcome to the Spectrum Computing forums, and welcome back to the ZX Spectrum scene as well. I'm actually a new person here, so I don't really get why would anyone put a Z80 in a DOS context. Doesn't DOSBox just emulate MS-DOS or something? Just curious.

@PeterJ Thanks for reminding me about CSpect, but I did say almost no other emulators.
But yeah you're probably right about OP already choosing a game to develop.

danboid Believe it or not, Celeste Classic is one of my favorite games in recent history. I wish I could play the Speccy Next version, but... 1. I don't even have a N-GO yet. 2. ZEsarUX is kinda buggy and idk how to set it to emulate Next anyway 3. There's almost no other Speccy Next emulators besi...

Can you repeat that question with a bit more detail? Because I'm confused by what you mean by "zoom-in routine". Which software are you even using? Forgive me if I'm being blunt.
