Reviews for Deviants (#1375)

Review by Alessandro Grussu on 04 May 2017 (Rating: 4)

A platform/shooter game reminiscent of the classical Dan Dare, where as the last member of the Starwarrior elite squad you must arm bombs scattered around an alien-infested former space colony.

Nice graphics and a large playing area cannot however hide the fact that the enemies are all the same, and the bomb arming mechanism is too similar to those seen in other Players titles. But the game is certainly interesting if you like the genre, and well above average for a £ 1.99 - Pts. 650 - Lit. 5000 range title. 3.5/5

This isn't bad and is certainly better than I anticipated it to be. The gameplay works fine up to when you have to activate the bombs by pressing the buttons to light up the valves, that is just luck for me and when you fail the game ends, pity. But I would have happily paid £1.99 and gotten some fun out of it.

Good "walk around the map" game for those who love such games. It looks like a budget clone of Dan Dare, but there is nothing wrong with that.

Controls are responsive, and you won't have movement problems. The only annoying thing is that you need to shoot a lot to kill any enemy. Go to TipShop, and use "one shot one kill" poke — the game is WAY more fun in this mode. It really should have built-in "easy/hard" selection for that.

Also, failing a valve means game over, so if you just want to walk around shooting ali… eh… deviants, use "auto valve" poke.

The map is quite big, but you have teleporter platforms for fast traveling. Discover them and write down their names, because you will need to type them to teleport.

After applying "one shot one kill" poke i found the game playable and fun, so the final rating is "good".
