Reviews for Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge (#2937)

Pretty good racing game, nice graphics, decent music and the speed is mental, really frickin fast! However its pretty difficult to see anything up ahead because the screen is so narrow and tilts up when you go uphill. to see anything! But in spite of that I personally found it pretty enjoyable, but man its tough as hell! You will need PLENTY of practice to go far in this game.

Not a bad racing game but the narrow screen made it just too awkward to me, if only for that it would have a great game.

Gremlin did an excellent job in porting their Amiga classic to the humble speccy. It's just a shame that the one player game only uses half the screen. This gives the graphics a slightly squashed look which is ok in 2 player mode but completely unnecessary when playing solo. Graphical quibbles aside this is one of the best driving games for the speccy.

The one player narrow screen is a nuisance and so too is the way the screens scrolls up and down while racing. Despite this it's still a great example of how a racing game should play with its fast speed and smooth scrolling.

Really good race game with beautifully balanced gameplay that makes the racing feel very immersive and intense.
The letterbox view is the only reason to make this less than 5/5. You can get used to it, but it does just take the edge off.

Lotus Esprit is a great racing game, fast and well written, but the narrow screen makes it just too awkward to be fully enjoyable, also the way the screen scrolls when you get to the hills is just annoying. Half of the screen is used for the pit stops making the view a bit boring after awhile, just looking at the same image time an time again. It's nonetheless a great conversion from the Amiga, and it would be a 5 star game if none of the above was as it is.
