Reviews for 720 Degrees (#41)

I was never that keen on the arcade version of this game, but it’s a pretty good conversion. You’re a skateboarder going round a street landscape with ramps and water. You must score points to buy extra gear from stalls and avoid break dancers, cyclists etc. Then it’s off to one of four courses. The sound is the worse aspect, non-existent really which is odd as there’s a ghetto blaster round the border of the screen. The graphics are decent but totally monochrome unfortunately. Still your skateboarder moves fast and smoothly. A good conversion of a so-so game, with not much to it.

I personally found this game pretty lousy, the arcade game wasn't a great game but had at least a bit of enjoyment but this for me had little fun in it and was left more disappointed with this.

720° is a respectable conversion from an unusual Atari coin-op. As a skateboard fanatic, you must perform several feats in four different event parks - Downhill, Jump, Ramp and Slalom - in order to win prize money that will allow you to purchase other tickets to the parks themselves as well as equipment like shoes to go faster or knee pads to get up faster after a fall.

The conversion is faithful enough to the original although graphics are just yellow on black and sound is very limited. The problem is that the coin-op itself is not very varied nor exciting, and the game reflects this as well.

Nice 3D isometric skateboard game. With lethal bees chasing you.
3,75/5

The tape with the game has on side B the original sountrack of the Arcade.

The idea is fine, but the game after some matches becomes dully. The bees are too persistent as a excuse to terminate the game, but I guess it would have been better a different way, such as poor qualifications on the tests

720° is another Atari coin-op conversion. As you may guess it's a skateboarding simulator. You start in a skateboarding complex where there is a whole range of radical sport addicts, either riding bike, or doing various stunts, even break dancing. You must ride your stake while avoiding being hit by any of this kids and reach one of 4 skate parks named Downhill, Jump, Ramp & Slalom. Each won event wins you a medal (gold, silver or bronze) and a prize in cash allowing you to buy tickets for the remaining parks and new equipment for enhancing you performance. There is a sale stand scattered around the park where you can buy your stuff. If the player doesn't enter a park within the time limit he is chased by a cloud of killer bees.
Personally I don't like neither the Atari or Spectrum versions, but if I had to choose one I'd go with the Spectrum version. I'm used to seeing more options and variety in the Atari games, and this one is a bit flat on both.

The arcade is only half decent, so too is this conversion as a matter of fact.
