Reviews for Sanxion (#4333)

Review by YOR on 25 Mar 2014 (Rating: 2)

Sanxion wasn't much of a classic in my eyes to be honest, so why they felt it needed to have a speccy remix is anyone's guess. It's no improvement from the original, if anything it's worse and makes me feel that attempting to enhance a certain C64 "legend" into Z80 was such a bad idea. The music is awful too, further proof such a conversion should not have been touched. A proper downgrade.

This was the Spectrum conversion of some C64 hit, I remember Thalamus had plenty of them,
all were shoot'em up's - but whey they tried the port to the Sinclair machine, something got lost in translation,
I suppose. It's a side-view shoot'em up with a narrow playing area, because the upper section of the screen
is taken by a top view of the action. Never got much far in this, because it's pretty hard. The gameplay
reminds of Firebird's Sidewize, which is better under any aspect. Still, Sanxion is not bad.
3/5

Not bad but it has plenty of problems that hamper it, namely the narrow screen, the monochrome graphics which makes things hard to see and the terrible noise that's meant to be title music. My ears are still hurting after listening to it. C64 owners would find this “Spectrum Remix” laughable.

Another average sided-view shoot-em-up with a narrow playing area.
I liked the presentation and sound (the theme tune is irritating), and the game plays rather well, but I dont know, there is something missing about the game and le mayonnaise ne prend pas.
