Reviews for Shadowfax (#4431)

This isn't much of a game in all honesty. You're just moving a guy on a horse to shoot other guys on horses, and not really shooting them but rather hold the fire button to release some kind of lightning bolt and then let go of it when it's touching them. That's all this game has to offer, there's no levels, there's no lives, you just keep going until you die. It feels like a tech demo more than an game or something straight out of a magazine covertape, but no, you paid £6.95 for this in 1983, that's the modern day equivalent of around £24! Wowzers! But saying that it's at least something to play and something you can get to grips with and especially after Anirog Kong it may as well be the greatest game game on earth! I just can't believe you actually paid money for this.

I have to agree with user YOR when he says there isn't much of a game here, even though I played this game occasionally back in those days and have fond memories attached to it. It's even fair to say this was a software rip off from those early Spectrum days. Because besides the beautifully animated rider (the main reason I loaded the game) there are no goals to achieve, and no levels to surpass, just points to accumulate and one life, it's a non stop loop game where you perform the same actions over and over again: move the rider and try to hit the black riders with a sort of lightning bolt. That's it. Not a proper game in the word sense, more like a prototype idea. I think in today's days the main reason you could recommend this game to anyone, would be because it was written by Mike Singleton of Lords of Midnight and Doomdark's Revenge, to name a few.
