Reviews for Soft & Cuddly (#4619)

Review by Alessandro Grussu on 24 Jun 2011 (Rating: 4)

One of the most gruesome and bizarre-looking Spectrum games ever turns out to be a pretty straightforward flip-screen shoot-and-collect-em-up affair where you have to find the giant fridge first, and your mother's body parts later.

Normally I would have awarded it a 3, but it gets a 4 because of its novelty value due to its gory, off-the-wall atmosphere, and because it went out as a budget game, so it was not bad value for the money.

If Soft & Cuddly was a movie, it would be a low-budget, early 80s Cannibal flick in my opinion.

2013 REVIEW:
It's a clumsy and gory mix between Jet Set Willy and Jet Pac programmed by a sociopath with homicidal tendencies.

2017 REVIEW:
Mediocre if not crappy maze game hiding behind some bloody graphics.
2,5/5

Sub par platformer which is only offensive due to it's crapness.

The most disquieting thing about Soft & Cuddly is the impression it leaves of the gore obsessed author almost certainly nowadays pacing his ward, tattered beret in hand, Bauhaus on his Walkman, muttering off the 666 days to the next big event, doodling skulls in his notebook.
Soft & Cuddly perfectly encapsulates Sepctrum Hell if you imagine continually playing it until you have mastered it and then starting over.

1987 The Power House (UK)
by John George Jones

I bet that if The Power House didn't release this game it would be the sequel to the infamous 'Go to Hell' game by the same author.

Mainly famous for it's sick filled humour, the game in itself is rather unplayable. It looks crappy and plays bad. It's also full of bugs that make the game very annoying.

Utterly confused with this one. The graphics and animation is interesting but the gameplay is pretty pitiful. I found the average score on WoS to be a weird one because it's from The Power House, but it turns out to be as pretty much pointless as the rest of their games. Not one I'll play again for sure.
