Reviews for Summer Games (#4990)

These Epyx sports games are a mixed bag to say the least some of the events are a nightmare like pole vault and gymnastics, but then again if you choose to practice one event at a time rather than go straight in to compete in them you can get somewhere with improvement in the events, pole vault for instance I was able to improve on immensely. Diving and Gymnastics though I could never work out at all. It's a relief that this game is kind on your fingers by not being a button masher, but then I felt the gameplay itself suffers for being overly complex.

I tend to compare all Athletics games to Decathlon, Super Test or Hyper Sports, which are not just classics but awesome games. But there are others which are also very good. Summer Games came late into my life so I don't have memory lane behind me influencing my opinion. The first thing I noticed about this game is that it is no so aggressive to the keyboard, which is in fact a great thing, but on the other hand takes away a bit of the challenge. Graphically it's very accurate, with nice animations, not so good as the cartoony Hyper Sports, but more realistic. All events all well depicted and the competition is rather engaging. Still I find that something is missing, maybe it's if I played it as a kid, I would place next to my classic.
