Reviews for Blazing Thunder (#564)

SHOCK HORROR! A Hi-Tec game that has NOTHING to do with Hanna-Barbera!! Instead Blazing Thunder is actually a pretty basic yet pretty playable tank shmup! Not much I can say about it really other than if this is your sort of game I think you'll enjoy it.

This is what I like about Spectrum games, the personal touch of each programmer. It was most common until around 1985, although extended throughout the Spectrum Era. Small companies/programmers didn't care or hadn't the knowledge of the standards of commercial success, which nowadays are used and applied to all most every game. I am referring to some of the details completely absurd seen in this game. For example, the size of our tank, which seems Lilliputian compared to the soldiers.
This kind of details always makes me smile and I think is one of the most captivating features of the Spectrum.
About the game itself, there's nothing much to say, its a Commando type game, it plays well and can be fun.

Decent Commando-type game. I recall ignoring the typical "hilarious" Jon Pillar review in YS back in the day, and enjoying it.

Hi-Tec were famed for their cartoon licensed games, mostly from Hanna-Babara, but this was one of the very few non-licensed games they released. It's a Commando-type clone except you drive a tank. It's a playable game, no question about it, it plays at a nice speed and it responds well, but it just becomes lifeless really quickly. But it's decent enough, just not really exciting nor gripping.
