Reviews for Bonkers (#632)

Review by WhenIWasCruel on 10 Mar 2013 (Rating: 3)

the movement of most early platformers used to be upward, by jumping or ascending stairs (as in donkey kong) or whatever.
but bonkers (procom software) reverses the concept, and the goal is to reach the bottom of the screen, in matchstickly fashion.
it doesn't seem to be much appreciated, but i must confess that as far as simple-minded one screen games go, i quite like it.
by the way, it's an early effort by knight tyme famed david jones.

This game gets me on my nerves !!

The keys are so weird -E,S,D,X- , almost orthopedic . The movements are so unresponsive !!

In spite of that , I kinda like this one ... but most probably for the wrong reasons .

I actually rather liked this one, it’s got a simple concept it easy to get into and it’s actually quite good fun to play, but your man moves so fast it makes this more awkward than it ought to be, especially in later levels. If not for that this certainly would have got a higher score for me.

1983 Procom Software (UK)
by David Jones and Ray Owen

I had almost forgotten about this game, and thanks to YOR I "rebooted" an old memory.
Yes, this game is old, 1983 was a long time ago, but the game holds well. It always reminds me of Jumping Jack, which is actually from the same year and plays similar and then Frogger, which is in fact quite similar to Bonkers, and was probably the inspiration for it, with a new set of clothes, of course. It's a bit too fast specially moving your character left and right, but the overall game is quite entertaining. The main problem is it gets extremely difficult after a short time of playing, but that can be a good thing if you like challenging games.
